A concern for the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability is central to my practice.
Deciding on appropriate technologies for a project can be a daunting task, with impartial advice often hard to obtain. With a new building the choice of materials, orientation, and building form can all be developed at an early stage to maximise the environmental performance and ultimate carbon footprint of the finished building. With existing structures however it is necessary to balance often conflicting factors eg aesthetic alterations, conservation constraints, existing materials and construction details, appropriate services and of course cost.
My task is to liaise with the client to achieve the optimum design and practical solution both in relation to environmental responsibility and my client's broader requirements and budget. I work with an experienced architectural technician with a passion for sustainable construction, and we ensure that the environmental approach to each project is developed through a balanced, holistic view of the client's needs.
